Description

Cullera is a coastal municipality located south of Valencia, in a Mediterranean setting strongly defined by its relationship with the sea. The plot is located near the lighthouse, on a cliffside site open to the Mediterranean, offering exceptional views over the coastline.

The project proposes a 58-room boutique hotel conceived as an experience closely connected to its setting. The programme includes a panoramic restaurant and bar, thermal circuit, gym, co-working space and events room, bringing together accommodation, wellness, work and social uses within a building carefully adapted to the site’s topography.

The building’s implantation takes advantage of the terrain to create a deliberately restrained and understated arrival sequence. From the street, the hotel emerges as a simple, opaque volume that protects the entrance and momentarily conceals the landscape. Upon entering the reception area, the sea appears unexpectedly, turning the arrival at the hotel into a transition between the city and the Mediterranean horizon.

In contrast to the access façade, the seaward façade is open and permeable. Glass, timber and terraces establish a direct relationship with the views, light and sea breeze, reinforcing the building’s condition as an inhabited viewpoint over the cliff.

The interior materiality is based on neutral tones, timber surfaces and natural textures, allowing the surrounding landscape to remain the main protagonist. Lighting and furniture are used to adjust the character of each space: the reception is conceived as a fresh and welcoming area, organised around a central seating element; the spa seeks to create an atmosphere of calm and relaxation linked to water; and the restaurant opens onto a large terrace suspended over the cliff, oriented towards the sunset and the changing reflections of the sky over the Mediterranean.

The rooms follow the same material logic as the rest of the project, combining timber, natural fibres and handcrafted tiles in marine tones. Each room includes an outdoor area with a solarium and private pool, conceived as an intimate extension of the interior space. In this way, the room is not merely a place of accommodation, but a small private retreat facing the sea.
