Description
This 19-hectare project was the first commission by CENTENARIO and served as a prototype to define an innovative concept of urban development in Peru.
The first step was to understand the inhabitant — their uses and customs — and analyse the conditions of Tacna's agricultural fabric: subtropical desert climate, water from the mountains, and the Peruvian fondness for public space.
The historic lines of the agricultural fabric were used to integrate the design and orient the plots. A one-mile park network runs through the entire development with a sinuous, fluid design. Each park strip contains different uses — play areas, sports and rest zones. A hierarchical traffic system of avenues, main streets and pedestrian passages.
